Music in the Park Concert Series
Weekly concerts at Maude Edenfield Park have become a tradition for North Augustans. A variety of musical performers from concert band to bluegrass and jazz have entertained the lawn chair audiences for more than a decade.

The 2009 Music in the Park series has much to offer in entertainment. Leading the line-up of entertainment on May 21 at 7 p.m. will be the North Augusta High School Concert and Symphonic Bands under the direction of Mr. Chuck Deen.

Sound and presentation will be enhanced this year by a sheltered pavilion for performers. The grounds of the park have also been been improved. The North Augusta Cultural Arts Council and the North Augusta Parks and Recreation Department are proud to showcase this premier performance venue.

We are fortunate to have Georgialina Physical Therapy Associates and University Health Care returning as sponsors for the concert series.
Maude Edenfield Park is located on the grounds of the North Augusta Community Center at 495 Brookside Drive. In the event of rain, concerts are held in the Community Center. For more information, call 803-442-7588.

Gayleisha Bryant wins the title
2009 NA Idol Winner | Home
Gayleisha Bryant has just added another rung on the ladder toward her goal of being a contestant in American Idol. She earned the title of North Augusta Idol, 2009 wowing both audience and judges.

This is the fifth year the North Augusta Cultural Arts Council (NACAC) has produced a program for the youth of North Augusta. Recognizing that many North Augusta youth had no where to show their talent, NACAC held auditions and this year some 100 students from first grade to high school seniors tried out for the contest. The winners will be showcased in a Music in the Park concert this summer.

"The talent gets better every year" said Peggy Burnett, President of the NACAC, whose suggestion to have a talent show started this production. A $1,000 scholarship is funded from the production and PowerServe International, a local web design company.

Other winners from high school were Nathaniel Mullins, a pianist, and first runner up Ryan Nelson, who played guitar and sang. Middle school winners were Sawyer Branham, opera singer, and dancers Haley Grant and Allison Joyner. Winners from elementary school were Alli Dyches and Shelby Smith.

As Gayleisha Bryant was named the North Augusta Idol 2009, another group of winners were recognized for their efforts in the art component of the contest.

Sponsored by the North Augusta Cultural Arts Council, the art contest, like the talent competition, was divided into three categories - elementary, middle and high school, in addition to an overall winner.

Kelly Cercy of North Augusta High School (NAHS)received accolades for her work, chosen "Best of Show" for the competition.

The first place winners in each category were Janese Utley, NAHS; Mary Kate Jenkins, Paul Knox Middle School (PKMS) and Kiana Franklin, Belvedere Elementary School.

The second place winners were Thais Weaver, NAHS; Hari Seng, PKMS and Draven Doom, North Augusta Elementary School.

The third place winners were Nicole Felak, NAHS; Shelby Kendrick, North Augusta Middle School and Ashlyn Sweats, Mossy Creek Elementary School.

Thank you to all that participated!
